Historically, Burns Scalo Real Estate started as a real estate developer who builds, owns, manages, and leases all of its properties. Currently, our existing portfolio is approximately 5 million square feet and is seIVices by our three primary divisions including Brokerage, Management, and Development.
Our firm still develops all its own projects, but we also serve as our own General Contractor for all of our construction activities (both new ground-up construction and interior fit-outs, both inside and outside of our portfolio). From the beginning, our owner Jim Scalo recognized that there was a natural disconnect between the Owner and a traditional 3rd Party GC. It's not the GC's fault, but their interests are typically not aligned with ownership. About 10 years ago, we began taking the GC services in-house via Burns Scalo Development LLC to ensure there is always alignment with ownership, investors, and ultimately the end user who is often our customer for life. Because of the history of our firm, we have become experts at managing relationships and expectations through the pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases of the project.
